1974 BMW 2002

Description

One should not underestimate the importance of the BMW 2002, in global car market terms and also for its influence on BMW’s history. Styled as a more modern, cheaper and more compact car than the ‘New Class’ series that saved the company, the 2002 really caught the public’s attention, with its unique blend of power, agility, and style – in addition to its reasonable price tag.

Added to this was the choice of powerplants, from the single carburetted 100 hp base 2002, to the sporty 2002tii, a range later topped by the exciting, if a little frantic, Turbo model. They are a most practical classic car as the availability of parts for them is nearly limitless; in 2005, BMW even constructed a “new” 1972 tii almost entirely from its vast supply of replacement parts.

The original concept of the car was obviously ‘right’ as it went through very few changes, the most obvious being the switch to rectangular rear lights in 1973. Otherwise, it seems that BMW got the formula right first time.

This1974 BMW 2002 is powered by its original 2.0-litre inline-four mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 93,000 original miles. The car has just finished a comprehensive mechanical and cosmetic restoration and it is ready to thrill its new owner with its unique blend of precise and forgiving handling and very healthy power output. This is combined with excellent brakes and compliant but sporting suspension and superior ride quality. Located in Denmark
