Description

The Triumph Spitfire, a two-seater convertible Sports Car, was first introduced at the London Motor Show in 1962 to rival the Austin Healy Sprite and MG Midget. It was manufactured between 1962-1980 at Canley Works in Coventry with around 315,000 models made over the 18 year period. Styled for Triumph by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti, the Spitfire was popular in street and rally racing. They won numerous SCCA National Sports Car Championships in F and G production classes, and it won its class at the 1964 Tour de France rally coming in second overall and then won the 1964 Geneva Rally. In 1965, a Spitfire won its class in the Alpine Rally.
