We love a story about motoring heritage, and this one begins in 1972 when TVR introduced the first of their ‘M Series’ cars; the M2500. This ground-breaking sports car immediately caught the attention of British motorists with its sleek design, exhilarating performance, and unrivalled driving dynamics. The M2500 embodied the spirit of British engineering, and its arrival heralded a new era of quality for the small company from Blackpool.
As the M Series gained popularity, it quickly became a symbol of British automotive excellence. Each M Series car was meticulously crafted, and quality checked by skilled artisans who poured their passion and expertise into every detail. This commitment to craftsmanship resulted in vehicles that exuded a sense of quality and uniqueness, setting TVR apart from other manufacturers.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the TVR M Series was its ability to adapt and evolve with the changing times.
Later in 1972, TVR unveiled the TVR 3000M, a model that showcased the company's innovative spirit and commitment to continuous improvement. The 3000M boasted a sleeker design, improved aerodynamics, and enhanced performance, captivating drivers across the nation.
Motorists were captivated by the TVR M Series not only for its thrilling performance but also for its distinctive character. These cars were not afraid to challenge conventions and embrace bold design choices. With their sleek lines, muscular stances, and attention-grabbing colour options, the M Series vehicles stood out, turning heads wherever they roamed.
TVR's dedication to performance was truly remarkable. Under the bonnet of the M Series cars, drivers discovered a range of powerful engines that unleashed a symphony of horsepower and torque. Each M Series model offered a unique driving experience that left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to get behind the wheel.
Today, the TVR M Series remains a cherished piece of British automotive history. The surviving vehicles have become sought-after collector's items, treasured by enthusiasts who recognize their significance and appreciate their timeless design. They serve as a testament to the ingenuity, craftsmanship, and indomitable spirit of TVR and continue to inspire the next generation of car enthusiasts.
TVR 5500M
Here is where our story departs slightly from history, but in the best possible way. A previous owner of this TVR M car wanted to combine the classic style of a 1970s TVR, with a dose of 21st century engineering. Coming hand in glove with that improvement is one other key ingredient - more performance. This TVR ‘5500’ M now has a 5.4 litre Ford Racing V8 producing 400hp. The huge increase in power is managed by upgrades to just about every other component.
The headlines are as follows:
• Bespoke, strengthened chassis from TVR specialists.
• Strengthened race specification Borg Warner T5 transmission with limited slip differential.
• Brand new suspension uprights and AVO coil-overs.
• Disc brakes all round with AP Racing callipers.
• Bespoke stainless headers and exhaust system.
Underpinning the performance upgrades is a complete cosmetic restoration, consisting of a ‘back to gel coat’ approach to the body and a timeless respray in Pepper white. The interior is fully re-trimmed, with Wilton leather bound carpets, leather seats, leather dash, leather door cards, a bespoke alcantara headlining, new Smiths instruments, a period radio with Bluetooth connectivity, and a beautiful OBP pedal box. There is a brand new Webasto folding roof, and 5 refurbished original Wolfrace alloys fitted with new period correct Pirelli CN36 tyres.
The car is presented in immaculate condition with only 1,350 miles since restoration.
There are albums and documents charting the entire project, demonstrating the cost, and quality, committed to this stunning resto mod TVR.
